Egyptology Tour

We are pleased to announce a special holiday led by Hany Halim (our Senior Guide and Egyptologist) for those who have perhaps visited Egypt before and wish to see something different, or for those who would like to learn about the history of this ancient land beyond the general outline normally provided on holiday tours.

Hany will conduct the group on visits to Sakkara and the funeral complex of Djoser; the Giza Plateau and the Pyramids of Khufu, Khafra and Menkaura and the Tombs of the Nobles; the Sphinx and the Valley and Sphinx Temples.

One of the enduring mysteries of Ancient Egypt is the construction techniques used by the pyramid builders. During the Old Kingdom, massive monoliths were the predominant building medium of the ancient architects. People wonder at the methods used to manipulate such giant blocks of stone but, even more intriguing, is the high degree of accuracy achieved in the joints between them.

This package will also include visits to Karnak and Luxor Temples, where you will enjoy an explanation of the carved scenes and hieroglyphics incised into the walls of the inner temple precincts. The Valley of the Kings, the Tombs of the Nobles and Deir el Medina (village of the workers of the Valley of the Kings) also beckon for you to make new discoveries as you are led through the historic sites of the Ancient Egyptian Civilisation.

Hany uses the pyramids, temples and tombs of Ancient Egypt like a massive, open air, museum as he takes you through the finer points of interest and unveils some of the mysteries and wonders of this ancient land.

Groups will consist of around 20 people and accommodation will be in 4*/5* establishments.

1st Day	PM	Cairo :: Arrival and Check-in at hotel. :: Your room will be prepared ready for your arrival where you may freshen up before retiring to bed or spend a little time exploring your locality (depending upon timing of flights and your arrival).
2nd Day	AM	:: Enjoy a leisurely morning in your hotel and surrounding area where you will have time to prepare for your first visit. Giza Plateau :: Pyramids of Khufu, Khafra and Menkaura. :: The Great Sphinx and the Sphinx Temple and Valley Temple of Khafra. :: Tombs of the Nobles.
	PM	Egyptian Museum - Cairo :: Visit to the Egyptian Museum - A guided tour of the museum that leads you through the wealth of treasures from the Old, Middle and New kingdoms and where you will discover for yourself the treasures of Tutankhamen. :: There will be opportunities to buy souveniers and works of art throughout the day. :: Evening - Board train for overnight journey to Luxor.
3rd Day	AM	Luxor :: Embarkation before Lunch
	PM	:: Visit Karnak Temple and Luxor Temple. :: Overnight in Luxor.
4th Day	AM	Luxor / Esna :: Cross to West Bank. Visit the Valley of Kings, the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut at El-Deir El-Bahari and Colossi of Memnon.
	PM	:: Sail to Esna & Cross the Lock :: Captain’s Cocktail Reception. :: Sail to Edfu & Overnight.
5th Day	AM	Edfu / Kom Ombo / Aswan :: Visit the Temple of Horus, one of the most complete pieces of architecture in Egypt dedicated to the Egyptian god Horus son of Osiris.
	PM	:: Sail to Kom Ombo, Visit the Temple shared by two Gods Sobek and Horus. :: Oriental Galabaia Party :: Sail to Aswan and Overnight.
6th Day	AM	Aswan :: Visit the Temple dedicated to Isis on Philea Island then visit High Dam passing by the Old Dam of Aswan.
	PM	:: View of the Elephantine Island, the Botanical Gardens and Agha Khan Mausoleum sailing on a Felucca.
7th Day	AM	Aswan :: Disembarkation after Breakfast. :: Board Train (1st Class Coach) for journey to Luxor. Enjoy the timeless scenes as you recline in the luxury seats and watch the Egyptian Countryside roll by.
	PM	Luxor :: Arrival in Luxor :: Check-in to Hotel :: Afternoon Free - at leisure. :: Overnight in Luxor.
8th Day	AM	:: Morning Free - at leisure. :: Opportunity to buy souveniers and for some last minute shopping. :: (optional - take a dawn flight in a hot-air ballon over the West Bank and Valley of the Kings.)
	PM	:: Afternoon Free - at leisure. :: Evening - Board train for overnight journey to Cairo.
9th Day	AM	Cairo :: Visit Sakkara and the Pyramid Complex of Djoser. :: Visit the Tombs of the Nobles and the splendid 32 roomed tomb of Merrerukka at Sakkara .
	PM	:: Afternoon Free - at Leisure. :: Optional excursion to Pharaonic Village. :: Overnight in Cairo.
10th Day	AM	:: Opportunity to buy souveniers and for some last minute shopping. ::
	PM	:: Journey to Airport :: Airport and onward journey home.

Prices include all flights, accomodation, transfers and transport in Egypt, entrance fees to museums and sites of antiquities and visits as listed in the itinerary and the services of a tour guide and Egyptologist, but are subject to small price fluctuations, airport tax and fuel surcharges as applied by the airlines at the time of booking. From time to time it may be necessary to change the order of the itinerary due to flight times and train timetables - we do, however, endeavour to keep any changes to a minimum.
